It is appears former Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter will lose his first election since joining politics two decades ago.

The tallying of votes after UDA nominations for the Kericho governorship has started and little known former university lecturer Eric Mutai has taken a commanding lead against the veteran politician.

If the preliminary results is anything to go by, no doubt Keter, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, will be defeated.

From what we have seen so far, the debutant is winning by a lot.

Though he has no deep pockets like Keter, Dr Mutai’s stirred a lot of excitement in his campaigns.

He started marketing himself slightly before Keter resigned as a Cabinet Minister in February.

In an interesting twist of events, Mutai poisoned the ground for the former Kericho Senator.

He accused him of being uncaring, mentioning that Keter purchased tea picking machines to deny the locals employment. This claim, which Keter denied, worked well for Mutai.

Barely two weeks ago, residents of Kericho held a fundraiser to raise money for Mutai’s campaigns.

Litkenya.com is keeping an eye on the UDA primaries and will continue to provide timely updates.
