Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has dropped his Machakos gubernatorial bid in favor of former Chief Administrative Secretary Wavinya Ndeti.

This means that Wavinya will fly the coveted Wiper Party ticket in the 9th August polls.

Speaking during a meeting led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Wavinya applauded Makau for his bold step.

“For a brother to step down for a sister is not a joke. I want to sincerely thank you Hon Makau for stepping down for me. That shows a love that surpasses any other love,” said Wavinya.

“This seat is not about Wavinya at all, it is about the party capturing the seat and working for our people.”

She called upon the members of the Wiper party to help each other in their political ambitions noting that the journey calls for unity.

“Tutembee pamoja. Hakuna mtu anajiweza kwa hii safari (Let us walk together. No one can survive alone in this journey.),” she pleaded.

Makau will now be defending his Mavoko seat for the third time after he was first elected in 2013.

Wavinya who ran for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2017 but lost to incumbent Dr Alfred Mutua will now battle it out with the ex-Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama who will be vying on a United Democratic Alliance ticket.

Others in the race include; former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita and Deputy Governor Francis Maliti.

The Wiper party also endorsed Prof Phillip Kaloki for consideration in the Nairobi gubernatorial nominations under the Azimio-One Kenya coalition.
