Uhuru leads nation in viewing Kibaki’s body at parliament

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta have Monday led the nation in paying tributes and last respects to the late Retired President Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki.

The President and the First lady led the nation in public viewing of the body of the late Kibaki at Parliament buildings followed by Deputy President William Ruto and other dignitaries.

A brief prayer by Catholic Church bishops preceded the body viewing exercise.

The body of the late Kibaki which arrived at parliament buildings at around 7.20 am will lie in state at Parliament buildings from today until Wednesday.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the public will have a chance to view the body and pay their last respects between 9 am and 5 pm.

The National Assembly, Senate, Ministries and Harambee House and other Government offices will have condolence books for signing from Monday afternoon.

Kibaki’s national state funeral with full military honors and protocols will be held on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Final rites will be held on Saturday, April 30, at his Othaya Home in Nyeri. The third President of the Republic of Kenya died on Friday, April 22 at the age of 90.
