Deputy President William Ruto fought back tears when his time came to pay his last respects to former President Mwai Kibaki.

When the second in command stepped to view the body of the retired Head of State, he got emotional.

Dr Ruto shed some tears before bowing and walking away.

The remains of Kenya’s third President arrived at Parliament Buildings this morning in a military carriage. He will lie in State for three days.

Kenyans will also have the opportunity to view the body between today and Wednesday.

Kibaki died on Friday after a long illness.

His nephew, Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi revealed that the health of his uncle has been deteriorating in the last five years.

He passed away at the Nairobi Hospital. He had been admitted to the facility 24 hours earlier.

Family confided that he had been suffering from blood pressure and on top of that fighting the consequences of the accident that nearly cost his life in 2002.

The former Kenyan leader served as President between December 2002 and March 2013.
