‘Kumewaka Moto’: Rigathi, Kindiki Storm Out DP Ruto’s Meeting in Karen

The much-publicized press conference where Deputy President William Ruto was to name his running mate has failed to take place.

This is after he was unable to cut a deal between the two lawmakers eyeing the position, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki.

At the end of the day, Rigathi and Kindiki left the meeting where negotiations were happening.

Kindiki was the first to leave at around 6 pm. He was spotted driving himself. Gachagua followed a few minutes later.

Since morning, the DP and his lieutenants have been holed up in a meeting trying to broker a truce at his official Karen residence in Nairobi.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa is said to have led a group that is opposed to Gachagua’s candidature.

He insisted that Ruto’s allies should vote to decide who deserves the position.

However, Gachagua argued that he had already been promised the slot and no way he was backing down.

Presidential candidates have until Monday, May 16 to announce their running mates.

Ruto’s main rival in the August General Election, ODM leader Raila Odinga is likely to name his running mate tommorow during a rally at the Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi.
