Raila unveils Martha Karua as his Presidential running mate

Azimio La Umoja Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga has nominated Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his running mate for the August election.

Raila made the announcement at KICC Monday afternoon flanked by leaders affiliated to the Azimio coalition.

“This woman has a beautiful story as exhibited by her love for children. This woman will make a remarkable Deputy President for the republic of Kenya,” He said.

The announcement all but puts to rest debate on who between Karua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former MP Peter Kenneth would be chosen to deputize Raila.

The three were in a shortlist forward to Raila by the running mate selection panel for consideration.
Raila said he needs a team player someone with fidelity to the people of Kenya adding that time was ripe for Kenya to have a female Deputy President.

“History is calling us to consider our women for these positions. 60 years after independence we must accept Women have a right to ascend into the highest positions of power,” He said.

Raila said after reviewing the running mate selection committee report, he had also decided to nominate Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a Chief Cabinet secretary to coordinate functions of the Government.

At the same time if elected President, Raila unveiled Kenneth Marende as his preferred Speaker of the Senate, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya would be the CS Treasury, Peter Munya would retain his Agriculture portfolio while Governor Hassan Joho would be CS for Land to deal with historical land injustices in the coast region.

Kalonzo was conspicuously absent from KICC during the announcement, instead choosing to hold his own press briefing at his SKM Command center.
