Standard Group Makes Changes to Editorial Staff Ahead of Elections

The Standard Media Group (SMG) has made new changes to its editorial staff ahead of the 9th August General Election.

In an internal memo issued on Friday, 20th May, SMG Editor-in-Chief Ochieng Rapuro noted that the changes were made in a bid to address staff gaps in its converged newsroom.

“As we prepare to cover the General Election, it has become necessary to address the various staffing gaps that we have in our converged newsroom. In line with this, we put out an internal advertisement for staff to apply for the various vacant positions that we had in the department,” the memo read in part.

“The exercise yielded positive results with some staff moving up the ladder and a number of correspondents coming in as staff reporters.”

In the new changes, Augustine Oduor was confirmed as the City Editor for its office at the I&M bank in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

Other changes include:

1. Shisia Wasilwa – Programme Editor, Kiswahili Desk, KTN (new appointment).
2. Frankline Sunday – Senior Data Journalist, Checkpoint Desk (previously a reporter, Economy Desk).
3. Lollita Bunde – moves from Reporter, Entertainment Desk to a Sub-Editor on the same desk.
4. Wainaina Wambu – moves from Reporter, Economy Desk to Sub-Editor on the same desk.
5. Chebet Birir – Transferred to the City Desk as Reporter (Previously at the Health & Science Desk).
6. Saada Hassan – Health & Science Reporter, transferred to Mombasa Bureau in the same capacity.
7. Augustine Oduor – Confirmed as the City Editor, I&M.
8. Patrick Alushula – Acting Checkpoint Editor (Formerly Senior Business Writer, Economy Desk).
9. Harold Odhiambo – Staff Reporter, Kisumu Bureau (Formerly a Correspondent in the same bureau).
10. Clement Masombo – Staff Reporter, Radar Desk (Formerly a Correspondent in Nyeri Bureau).
11. Nathan Ochunge – Staff Reporter, City Desk (Formerly a Correspondent, Kakamega Bureau).
12. Edwin Nyarangi – Staff Reporter, Politics Desk (Formerly a Correspondent, Kisii Office).
13. Nancy Nzau – Staff Reporter, City Desk (Formerly a Correspondent, Gender Desk).
14. David Njaaga – Staff Reporter, Radar Desk (Formerly a Correspondent, Photo Desk).
