Chief Justice Martha Koome has implored on the Tribunal investigating the conduct Justice Said Chitembwe to in accordance with the law.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the President had good reasons for appointing you given that you are distinguished professionals in your various professions. I therefore have confidence that you will perform the task before you in accordance with the law and fairness given that our Constitution venerates the cardinal value and principle of justice,” She said.
CJ Koome spoke during the swearing ceremony of Hon. Lady Justice Mumbi Ngugi the Tribunal Chairperson as well as others members Dr. Fred N. Ojiambo SC, Lady Justice Abida Ali Aroni, Justice Nzioki wa Makau, James Ochieng’ Oduol, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Jackson W. Ndung’u and Dr. Lydia Nzomo.
“The mandate of a Tribunal such as this one under Article 168 of the Constitution demands that the Tribunal conducts its proceedings transparently, fairly and without any bias whether real or perceived,” CJ Koome said.
She said the oath they took should guide them in their day to day work even as she wished them well in the delivery of their mandate.
“According to the oath, you must never depart from the law. In addition, the oath equally requires you to serve this country to the best of your abilities and bearing in mind the enormous responsibility placed upon you,” She said.
Kiragu Kimani SC will be the Lead Counsel while Joseph Gitonga Riungu and Edward Omotii Nyang’au will be assisting counsel and Jasper M. Mbiuki and Sarah Yamo will be Joint Secretaries.
