Nine out of 10 Kenyans who have medical insurance cover prefer to buy medication over the counter instead of seeking treatment in hospital. This situation is a cause for alarm with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya now calling for stringent measures to check the sale of medicine over the counter, with tougher penalties for those found operating pharmacies illegally.
