The country is set to celebrate 59 years of self-rule on Wednesday.

The Permanent Presidential Music Commission has announced that a number of artists are scheduled to perform at Wednesday’s ceremony.

Iyanii, Trio Mio, Femi One, Masauti, Jovial are some of the artists on the day’s rota. Also making the cut is Kamba sensation Mutulani Kasheshe of the hit song “Kungulu Kangala.”

Speaking about the day’s entertainment, PPMC Director Dr Donald Otoyo said, “Kenyans should expect a great set of performances ranging from traditional dances, choral music to contemporary music. Just like in the 2021 Jamhuri Day celebrations, Madaraka Day 2022 will also feature Kenya’s Gengetone sound.”

This won’t be the first time Gengetone musicians have performed at a national event, last year the group Mbogi Genje performed at Jamuhuri Celebrations also held at the Uhuru Gardens.

“Participants from the National Youth Talent Development Programme will also get to present productions they created during their various training workshops. @ppmc_kenya is confident that the artistes and acts curated for Madaraka Day 2022 will represent diversity and inclusivity among various artists and music genres in Kenyan music,” Dr Donald Otoyo added.

The celebrations at Uhuru Garden set for Wednesday, June 1st will be televised on KBC Channel one TV or here.
