Politics failed to take center stage in this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, with president Uhuru taking charge.
The celebrations which began early morning, saw Uhuru arrive at Uhuru Gardens at around noon, giving awards and then make his speech.
Uhuru blatantly snubbed his deputy William Ruto from the onset of the celebrations at State House, to the end of the event at Uhuru Gardens.
Azimio La Umoja Flag Bearer Raila Odinga who was at the event did not also get a chance to speak at the celebrations.
The only person allowed to speak was the Sieara Leon President who was in attendance.
For the first time Uhuru commented on the nomination of Martha Karua as Raila’s running mate saying the former Gichugu MP was on the verge of making history.
“We have a chance of electing a woman and shattering the glass ceiling by assuming the second-highest office in the Republic of Kenya.”
