One Thousand runners are expected to take part in this years edition of Nandi Road Race which will be held Sunday July 3rd at Nandi Forest, Nandi County.
The race will be flagged off at Kapsasur along Kisumu Road and at Namgoi Primary School.
So far over 750 athletes have enlisted for the race, 550 male and 230 female runners with the organizers hopeful the numbers will shore up before registration closes.
“We have seen tremendous growth since the inception of this race. The impact on the community has also been immense since we launched the tree planting exercise. We also use the registration fees from athletes to buy and distribute sanitary towels to schools around the community where that race takes place,” said Local Organising Committee, LOC, chairperson Hosea Sanga
Sanga also revealed that the official registration of the race is set to open this week.

Meanwhile the organizers of the race received a shot in the arm after betting firm Mozzart Bet announced a Ksh.3Million sponsorship of this years edition.
“The theme of the race has always been in line with Mozzart’s mission to make Kenya a better to place for the communities. The forest cover in Nandi is 24% and the intention is to push it to 50% to supplement government efforts of having 10% forest cover countrywide,” offered Mozart Bet Country Manager Sasa Krneta.
This years race which has been held since 2006 organised under the theme “Efforts to support Green economy and enhancing resilience to climate change risks”, seeks to help organizers achieve environmental conservation with a goal of restoring the water towers facing increased human activities with a risk of causing their depletion.
Each of the participating athletes will be provided with a tree seedling to keep in tandem with the races theme.
2021 Valencia Marathon winner Nancy Jelagat and Emmanuel Bor won the women’s and men’s categories respectively during the 12th edition of the race held last year.
