Ryan Injendi accuses Mudavadi’s office of meddling in UDA primaries, concedes defeat to David Ndakwa. Ndakwa now faces Seth Panyako (DAP-K) on Nov 27.
Drama is already brewing ahead of the Malava by-election after Ryan Injendi, son of the late area MP, Malulu Injendi, accused Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s office of meddling in the UDA nominations that cost him the ticket.
Speaking on Sunday, September 21, Ryan alleged that operatives linked to Mudavadi actively interfered in the process, tilting the scales in favor of his rival.
“We were with Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and sought an understanding, but the President advised us to go through nominations. I never saw President Ruto or Farouk Kibet meddling. But why were people from the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s office in Malava fighting a young man like me?” he asked.
Despite his frustration, Ryan conceded defeat gracefully and congratulated David Ndakwa, the Kakamega County Assembly Minority Leader, who clinched the UDA ticket with 6,477 votes against Ryan’s 3,783.
Ndakwa will now square off with Seth Panyako of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), who secured a direct ticket.
Even in defeat, Ryan reaffirmed his loyalty to President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“I will give Ndakwa space to campaign and continue supporting President Ruto. What he told us at State House is what I’m holding on to,” he emphasized.
The Malava parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Malulu Injendi, who was elected on an ANC ticket in 2022. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set the by-election for November 27, 2025.
With UDA politics already heating up, and Mudavadi’s influence under scrutiny, the Malava race is shaping up to be more than a constituency contest; it could be a test of loyalty, power, and shifting alliances in Western Kenya.
