ODM leader Raila Odinga now has the blessings of the Akorino faithful in his desire to lead the country.
Hundreds of Akorino members from different parts of the country endorsed for the presidency on Saturday, September 25, during a meeting in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
One leader of the sect said 2022 was the right time for Raila to become President after four failed attempts.
“We support Raila’s presidential bid. It is time to seek forgiveness and find a common ground as we move forward,” he said.
The Akorino pastors who were present prayed for the opposition leader and asked God to make him clinch the top seat. Raila was on his knees when the men of the cloth appealed his case before God.
A majority of the members of the Akorino denomination come from the Kikuyu community and the larger Mt Kenya region.
Over the last few months, Raila has stepped up his presidential campaigns under the Azimilio la Umoja (Declaration of Unity) slogan.
With limited avenues to sell his agenda due to Covid-19, Raila has been moving from one church to the other to preach his message.
Three weeks ago, he fellowshipped at the Bible Fellowship Church in Murang’a County, where Bishop Peter Kamau, the presiding minister, endorsed the ex-Premier for the top seat.
“Baba, we are so happy to host you. I believe in your cause. It is a big honour to host the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya. I like you because you don’t fear when making your decisions,” he said.
The clergyman also requested the veteran politician kneel at the altar for prayers.
