Arsenal FC has completed the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard and Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, the English Premier League team announced on Friday, 20th August.
The 22-year-old Norway international joined the Gunners on loan in January and has made the move permanent for a reported fee of £30 million.
Odegaard scored two goals in 20 appearances for the North London club last season.
“You’ve seen the numbers and what we did after Christmas when Martin was in the team… the team performed at a completely different level,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the club’s official website.
“He made us better, we needed more options, alternatives, creativity, and players that can be morals for this football club. He is still a really young man but he has huge experience in different clubs already. He has a unique talent based on the way we want to play.”
Madrid had signed Odegaard as a teenager and sent him out on various loan deals, including to Vitesse Arnhem and Real Sociedad before Arsenal.
Ramsdale joined later on Friday from Sheffield United, with whom he was relegated from the Premier League last season.
He made 38 EPL appearances for the Blades last season before being included in England’s squad for Euro 2020.
The 23-year-old who moves for a reported fee of £24 million will provide competition for Bernd Leno and Runar Alex Runarsson.
“Aaron is a talented young keeper with huge experience and has international experience for England. He will bring competition and that’s what we want to create – healthy competition, quality competition in every position. We identified Aaron as the ideal option,” said Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
Ramsdale and Odegaard join Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Nuno Tavares, who have signed for the Gunners this season.
Odegaard won’t be available for Sunday’s match against Chelsea. Arsenal opened the Premier League season with a 2-0 loss at Brentford.
