The battle for the control of the Luhya vote
block went a notch higher over the weekend with Lugari MP Ayub Savula throwing punches
in an outburst that saw him use derogatory terms to refer to rival camps.
Speaking at a function in Western, Savula
blamed the Luhya leaders for tabling non issues before the President, at a time
when the region has other pressing needs.
The irate law maker was accused Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa of being party less and with the intent to auction the Luhya Community.
He dismissed the two as squatters as they do
not have any party but are currently housed in other political parties.
He accused the two of sabotaging Luhya unity
by putting their interest first instead of joining hands to see the community
rise to leadership.
He cautioned the Luhya community to beware of
the divisions among the Luhya leaders, and take note of the leaders with no
mission who are intended towards pulling down others like Musalia Mudavadi and
Moses Wetang’ula in their 2022 election bid.
“Hawa wawili ndio missionaries (these two are
the missionaries), wale wenginge ni mercenaries (the other two mare
mercenaries) na wamequalify na PHD moja ya pull him down (with PHD in pulling
others down.
He stated that the Luhya community has been taken for granted for long with some of the leaders calling for meetings on company bailouts, yet the budgets had been approved.
Political temperatures across the region continue to rise with rival camps eyeing the vote-block.
One camp is led by Mudavadi and Wetangula
awhile the other which is allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga is led by Oparanya
and Eugene Wamalwa.
Over the weekend, drama ensued after armed
police officers surrounded the home of Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba where
Wetangula and Mudavadi were to meet.
The meeting was eventually allowed to proceed after
the police withdrew.
A day later, Ford Kenya offices in Nairobi
were attacked by armed goons.
