Arsenal has confirmed that striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club by mutual consent.

The Gunners terminated Aubameyang’s contract to allow him to sign for Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old Gabon striker signed the deal late on Monday evening, 31st January after Arsenal agreed to let their former captain depart at no cost.

“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club by mutual agreement,” the English Premier League club announced in a statement.

“We wish Auba all the best for the next chapter in his career and thank him for his contribution to the club.”

Aubameyang hasn’t played for the Gunners since 6th December and was left out of their squad for their warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

Aubameyang who was also linked with a switch to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr was sent home from the Africa Cup of Nations after medical tests had shown he had cardiac lesions. He had also tested positive for Covid-19 upon arriving in Cameroon for the tournament.

Aubameyang has spent four years at the Emirates having joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 when Arsene Wenger was still in charge.

He has scored 92 goals in 163 appearances for the north London club.

Following his exit Arsenal has not signed a replacement for the super striker. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah remain the only real centre-forward options for Mikel Arteta.
