Controversial gospel artiste Ben Githae found himself out of favour with fellow musicians on Monday night, December 6.
Musicians and other celebrities from the Mt Kenya region had converged at Bluesprings Hotel on Thika Road for the commemoration of one of their own, DJ Munga, who died in a grisly road accident a week ago.
During the event, Githae, who serves as chairperson of Kikuyu musician, was called by the emcee, Karangu Muraya, to address the gathering.
When he rose from his seat, his colleagues also stood up and booed him.
They could be heard expressing their disapproval over his new song dedicated to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Recently, the singer remixed the viral Tano Tena song to praise and endorse the presidential candidature of the former Prime Minister. In the composition, he also says the Mt Kenya region is behind the opposition chiefs.
But yesterday the artistes made it clear that they were not happy with the latest release.
It took the intervention of Karangu to calm down the celebrities, who had vowed that they will not be addressed by Githae.
The moderator noted that every Kenyan is entitled to their own political opinions and that should be respected.
“Maybe we don’t support the new song, but let’s respect our chairman. Tano Tena is one the song that has earned him a lot of money in royalties,” Karangu said.
The plea made them soften their stand and allowed him to speak.
After taking the microphone, Githae did not talk about politics. Instead, he hailed his counterparts for cooperation.
“You are good people. We have achieved a lot together and I believe we will continue coming together to help each other,” he said.
