Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has been dealt a major blow as a key political ally and former Chief of Staff Caroli Omondi joins the Deputy President William Ruto’s camp as 2022 political realignments start to take shape.

The opposition chief’s bid to consolidate his Nyanza turf is now under serious threat as a key ally now jumps ships.

Raila’s former Chief of Staff during his tenure as Prime Minister has openly declared his support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 ambition to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Caroli was an influential person in the African Union Special Envoy of Infrastructure’s office for the five years Raila served as the former President Mwai Kibaki’s co-principal in the coalition.

Caroli was also a key figure in opposition chief’s 2013 unsuccessful presidential bid campaign team before contesting for the Suba South Member of Parliament seat in 2017 where he lost during the ODM party primaries to the incumbent John Mbadi.

Caroli’s move to join Ruto’s camp comes at a time former Senators Hassan Omar,bBoni Khalwale, and Johnston Muthama have already declared their support to the second in command.

According to the Nation reports, the three former lawmakers and Caroli Omondi are expected to play a major role in DP Ruto’s campaign team.

“We are going to outwit our opponents once the country is opened,” Khalwale stated.

” As a country, we need to rethink our position in many matters,” the former Mombasa Senator weighed in adding that the country should embrace change.
