And finally we have the first official image of Dwayne Johnson as the anti-hero black adam. The feature will be on the cover of the next issue of Total Film magazine, which revealed how the character will look in the long-awaited DC film, from the uniform to the actor’s characterization.
And as can be seen in the image below shared by The Rock on their social networks, the costume adopted for black adam is very close to what fans already imagined and getting very close to the adopted in the comics. Clothing that is tighter to the actor’s body and with textures that appear to be some kind of old inscription is something that Johnson himself had anticipated before, but that only now do we have a broader view of how it turned out.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the final design and the conceptual arts presented by Warner Bros. is the iconic ray in the character’s chest, which characterizes the chosen by the wizard Shazam. In the first images shared by the studio, the symbol was highlighted in bright yellow that contrasted with the black of the uniform.
However, what the magazine presents is something much more discreet, with the gold already more opaque and covered by what appears to be a kind of soot. The reason for this difference is not clear, but it is possible to imagine that there is a symbolism in this transition from the symbol related to Black Adam’s own personality.
We know that, both in the comic book and in the film adaptation, the character is this king of Khandaq who gained the powers of the wizard Shazam, but who allowed himself to be corrupted in full force until he became one of DC’s most iconic villains. So, seeing the dirty symbol may well represent the corruption that the character will go through before becoming an actual anti-hero.
This is something that Dwayne Johnson himself suggests in his Twitter post to promote the cover of Total Film. “The world needed a hero. Instead, he has me,” writes the actor, who still celebrates the 10-year journey he went through to bring black adam to the big screen.
Trust in Black Adam
And The Rock wasn’t the only one to celebrate the release of the first official image of black adam. In an interview with Collider, producer Hiram Garcia said he watched an initial cut of the film and was quite confident with the result presented so far — and that he can’t wait for the public to have access to this story.
According to him, the version he had access to still hasn’t received the necessary digital effects, but that, even so, it’s so good and fun that the whole team remains quite confident about the final product. “This is a huge and fun movie. Johnson was born to live as Black Adam. If anyone is perfect for this role, it’s him.”
Garcia also comments on the protagonist’s relationship with the rest of the Justice Society, a group formed by the heroes Senhor Destino (Pierce Brosnan), Black Hawk (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Atom Crusher (Noah Centineo). According to him, Adão Negro’s interaction with the group is one of the best moments in the film.
“This is one of the funnest movies we’ve ever made,” says the producer. “And it’s great to be a part of something at this level and with a character that will make a huge impact on the DC Universe.”
black adam it only hits theaters on July 29, 2022, which means we’ve still got to hear a lot about the character by then.
