Renown human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has exposed an ongoing sexual exploitation scandal at the Taita Taveta county and the suffering at the hands of the rogue employer.

Mwangi blew the lid after an informant
tipped him on the on-goings at the Taveta where female employees are harassed
sexually and underpaid.

The employer in question is Robert Sailewu
who was awarded a tender by the County government of Taita Taveta to supply
food and human resources for 3 years.

Sialewu recruited several people to work as cooks at the facility, but things did not go as expected for the eager job seekers as the wave of exploitation began.

According to the whistle-blower, the
employees are expected to report to work at 4 am and work for 15 straight
hours.

Their hard labour for the 15 straight hours
every day sees the cooks earn a paltry monthly salary of Ksh 6000.

“Robert Sailewu was given a tender to hire cooks for Taveta Hospital. The workers report to work at 6am and work until 5pm. They’re paid 6000 shillings per month. The workers are being overworked and asked for sexual favors. This is exploitation to the core.” Wrote Boniface Mwangi.

With no transport provided the employees
are expected to use their own means to make it to work at 4 am at a time when
the sleepy town is still dark with no public transport.

The whistle-blower added that females are frequently subjected to sexual harassment with the boss keen on quenching his sexual thirst, taking advantage of the desperation.

Those who do not comply are threatened with
dismissal, with the rogue boss capitalizing on the unemployment situation.

There is no clear job description for the workers who are constantly assigned tasks that were not part of their initial engagements as cooks.
