Breast Milk Substitute Regulations signed into law – Kenyan Business Feed

The Breast Milk Substitute (Regulation and Control) (General) Regulations, 2021 have been signed into law.
This was announced during national celebrations to mark the world breastfeeding week held in Nairobi on Friday.
Medical Services Preventive and promotive health Acting Director Dr. Andrew Mulwa, who was representing Health Cabinet Secretary Sen. Mutahi Kagwe at the event, said the regulations have already been signed into law.
“Inappropriate marketing of breastmilk substitutes undermines women’s confidence and understanding of breastfeeding and competes with breastfeeding promotion especially at a time like this that we are facing the COVID 19 pandemic,” observed Mulwa.
The World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign that started in 1992 to raise awareness and stimulate action towards protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding.
The theme for the 2021 World Breastfeeding Week is “Protect Breastfeeding: A shared responsibility”.
