The delay in disbursement of the Sh300,000 and Sh250,000 grants to FKF Premier League and National Super League clubs respectively has been occasioned by the many procedures required before approval.
This follows an undertaking by the government two weeks ago to provide Sh300,000 and sh 250,000 as logistical support to each of the 18 and 20 clubs competing in the top tier and second tier respectively.
“We are working on the logistics. We are in the process of opening a bank account which of course requires a lot of clearance both from the Ministry (Sports) and Treasury. Because we have all the information from clubs, once that is completed, we will wire money to the clubs as soon as possible,” said FKF Caretaker Committee chairman Aaron Ringera in a statement that was read on his behalf by committee member Anthony Luyundi.
The amounts offered by Ringera’s committee to the Kenyan clubs are way below the Sh2 million grant each of the teams had requested to enable prepare and honour league matches that resumed earlier this month after a three-week break.
Speaking at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, the committee said the leagues had resumed smoothly and thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation.
They further called on football bodies in the country to align themselves with the Sports Act 2013.
Part of the responsibility of the committee, that was formed by Sports CS Amina Mohamed on November 11, was to ensure compliance with the Sports Act, so that new elections can take place within six months.
“The committee calls upon all clubs and associations to ensure that they fully comply with the requirement of the Sports Act to be able to run football activities at the grassroots. Clubs are further advised to deal with branches and associations that are compliant and where in doubt to verify this information with the Sports Registrar.”said Luyundi.
Last month, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded Football Kenya Federation and appointed the panel to run Kenyan football for six months.
Immediate former FKF President Nick Mwendwa has since left his role as Kenya’s soccer supremo and transferred his functions to his deputy Doris Petra,a move that has been quashed as null and void by Ringera.
