Caf Champions League: Vihiga Queens Beat ASFAR to Keep Semifinal Hopes Alive

Vihiga Queens registered their first win in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating ASFAR Club of Morocco at Al Salam Stadium in Egypt.

Violet Wanyonyi scored the first goal for the Queens in the 9th minute, as the Kenyans dominated the opening half.

After the break, Tereza Engesha scored the second goal to seal a 2-0 victory.

Speaking after the match Vihiga Queens Coach Charles Okere said: “It was a very tricky match for us. We collected ourselves well after the loss, we talked and planned to win this match”.

“Our players were nervous in the last match, but today they were more focused and well composed, this is the secret to today’s win. Our next match is very important for us to win as we want to be in the semi-final.”

With the win, the Cecafa Champions have now boosted their chances of qualification for the semis.
Queens have three points in Pool B same as ASFAR who thrashed Nigerian side Rivers Angeles 3-0.

Mamelodi Sundowns, who defeated Queens in their first match, also have three points but are yet to play River Angels of Nigeria in their second match. The River of Angels have not won any match so far.

Vihiga Queens will face Rivers Angels on Friday, 12th November at 30 June Stadium while ASFAR clashes with Mamelodi Sundowns on the same day at El Salam Stadium.
