Scottish Premiership club Celtic FC has confirmed the double signing of Joe Hart and James McCarthy on long-term deals.
Goalkeeper Hart joins the club on a three-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur while midfielder James McCarthy has inked a four-year deal, having left Crystal Palace, at the end of last season.
Hart, who has been capped 75 times by England, has twice won the English Premier League during 12 years with Manchester City. He also won the FA Cup and two League Cups.
The 34-year-old joined Tottenham in 2020 after a two-year spell with Burnley.
Last season, he made 10 appearances for Spurs, eight of which came in the Europa League and two in the FA Cup.
“This is a great moment for me in my career. I am absolutely delighted to be joining a club of Celtic’s stature. I know just how big this club is and of the incredible support that it enjoys, and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Celtic Park,” Hart told Celtic’s official website after completing his move.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new teammates and getting to work with the squad and, in particular, the other goalkeepers here.”
Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland international McCarthy joined Crystal Palace in 2019 after a six-year spell with Everton.
The 30-year-old, who has been capped 43 times by his country, started his career at Hamilton Accies before moving to Wigan Athletic three years later. He helped them to win the FA Cup in 2013 before moving to Goodison Park.
“To have signed for Celtic is a brilliant feeling and this is a special day for me and my family. I know all about the club, the size of it, and all the success it’s enjoyed, particularly in recent years,” said McCarthy.
“I’m looking forward to pulling on the Hoops, playing at Paradise, and helping the team deliver more success to these amazing fans in the seasons ahead.”
Last season, McCarthy made 10 starts for Palace before leaving as a free agent.
