BY NT CORRESPONDENT.

Five Police officers from Changamwe Police station facing murder charges have pleaded with the court to release them on bond.

Khalif Sigat, James Koti, Joseph Sirawa, Edward Onchonga and Nelson Nkanae have urged the high court to release them on bail pending hearing and determination of the case.

Through their lawyer Danstan Omari, the officers who are accused of killing a bodaboda rider Caleb Esipino Otieno alias Waingo applied in court for filling of pre bail report.

Waingo died on police cells at Changamwe Police station while the five officers were on duty.

The officers had been incarcerated in custody since their arrest on August 30 and upon being charged with murder charge, they pleaded not guilty. They applied for bail but the court declined to release them on bail citing compelling reasons to deny them bail or bond.

They argue their admission on bail will not in anyway interfere with the investigations or prosecution case. They added that they have no intention of interfering with witnesses nor investigation and they are willing to attend court when required or any other conditions imposed on them.
