Sharon Sakwa is yet to come to terms with the loss of her daughter a few months ago.

She struggles to narrate to the Saturday Nation the events that led to the murder of her 12-year-old child in Moi’s Bridge, a small town straddling the border between Uasin Gishu, Kakamega and Trans Nzoia counties.

“My daughter Stacy Nabiswa was a Standard Five pupil. She went missing on New Year’s eve. Her lifeless body was found near the railway line the following morning. What a way to start the year, and who is this that is killing our daughters?”

Sakwa says her daughter was given mutura laced with a substance she suspects was alcoholic, making her dizzy before she was sexually abused and killed.

“I managed to identify all the suspects but they were released soon after they were arrested. And now they have been threatening my life. Some have demanded that I be relocated from where I live or else they will come for me,” she says.

Stacy Nabiswa, who was a Standard Five pupil, was killed by her kidnappers in December last year.

Loice Muthoni, mother of the latest victim, is yet to come to terms with the cold blood murder of her 11-year-old child Grace Njeri, a pupil at Bridgeways in Moi’s Bridge, whose body was discovered last Thursday.

She could not view the mutilated body after a long search that once landed her in police custody for breaching curfew hours.

“My daughter disappeared on the evening of May 21, 2020, and on June 18, one month later, we were having lunch when we were told that a body had been found in a farm. What I saw when I arrived at the scene was shocking. Some body parts are yet to be found. That was the most inhumane thing I have ever seen,” said Muthoni.

“If there is someone out there who has a grudge with me, why not face me and spare my child? My child never wronged anyone.”

She says she will only bury her daughter once all her remains are found.

Lucy Wanjiru, another victim, had gone to sell vegetables at the market when she disappeared and was later found defiled and murdered.

The 13-year-old was a Standard Six pupil at Moi Township Primary School, also in Moi’s Bridge.

“Her lifeless body was found on the same day she was kidnapped, on January 16 this year,” said Kevin Wanyonyi, her brother.

A suspect was arrested but later released. Meanwhile, Sarah Echu, a resident of Moi’s Bridge, narrated how she rescued an 11-year-old girl on Friday afternoon from an attempted kidnapping by a boda boda rider.

“He called one of the young girls I look after at a local day care centre. He wanted to go away with her but I raised the alarm and he sped off, threatening to shoot me,” she said.

This string of murder cases targeting young girls has enraged residents.

Uasin Gishu County Assembly Nominated MCA Belinda Tirop led the residents in asking the government to arrest the killers.

Soy Sub-County Divisional Police Commander Fanuel Nasio told the Saturday Nation that police are investigating the murders.

“We have no suspects in custody yet, but we will make arrests soon,” he said.
