Celebrated Kenyan Journalist Larry Madowo has been promoted to CNN’s International correspondent just two months after he was appointed as the network’s Nairobi-based correspondent.
Madowo announced his promotion on his Twitter account biography.
With the promotion, Madowo will now be covering news beyond Kenya’s capital.
Before Joining CNN Larry worked at BBC as Africa Business Editor, North America Correspondent, and also anchored breaking news and presented BBC World News America from Washington , DC.
At BBC he covered major stories like the Covid-19 outbreak, the 2020 presidential election and also the protests following the death of George Floyd and the trial of Derek Chauvin.
While exiting BBC in May this year Madowo said that he enjoyed reporting from the US and around the world, and returning home to cover Africa stories was a real privilege.
“I have long admired CNN International’s award-winning coverage, and I’m honoured to be joining such a talented team. I look forward to sharing the full spectrum of life in one of the most dynamic parts of the world with CNN’s global audiences,” he said then.
Madowo started his broadcasting career at Kenya Television Network (KTN) at the age of 20. He later moved to NTV as a news anchor before proceeding to BBC.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Daystar University and a master’s in Business and Economics Journalism from Columbia University in New York.
