Churchill Show comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy has opened up on how he was raised and his childhood experiences.

In a wide-ranging interview with Mwalimu Churchill Ndambuki, a man who propelled him to greater heights in the comedy industry, the gagster narrated that he was brought up in a modest background as his mother used to sell firewood to fend for the family.

However, life took an unusual twist when his mother was diagnosed with malaria and met her end when he was 12 years old and in standard eight, rehearsing for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

“I was in class eight at St Joseph’s Primary School, and during KCPE rehearsals, I left my mother at home sick with malaria. Nobody told me she had died, I just felt it.”

Jessy stated that they could not bury their mother immediately after her death and had to wait for a fundraiser for them to raise enough money to buy her a coffin for a decent send-off. This led to her funeral being postponed until the time he finished his examinations.

“It was the most devastating time of my life. We could not afford her coffin. After the burial people left, and I was left with my grandmother and grandpa,” he said.

He further pointed out that the experiences taught him a lesson and changed his view entirely on how society cared less for the underprivileged such as the orphans.

“I came to discover that no one cares about orphans. For instance, when other people were planning Christmas for their kids, nobody thought about me,” he said.
