Covid-19 Caseload Hits 218,713 as 1,437 Test Positive

The number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya surged to 218,713 after 1,437 people turned positive from a sample size of 10,764 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 2,239,082, the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate stands at 13.4 per cent.

In a statement issued on Friday, 13th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases 1,377are Kenyans while 60 are foreigners. In terms of gender, 738 are males and 699 are females. The youngest is a two-month-old baby, while the oldest is 100.

Kagwe said that 1,056 patients have recovered from the disease, 963 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 93 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 201,054.

Some 29 more patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 4,302.

There are 1,938 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 9,528 patients are under Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 136 patients are reported to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 62 of whom are on ventilatory support, 67 on supplemental oxygen and seven patients are under observation.

Another 649 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 607 of them in general wards and 42 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
