Covid-19 Caseload Hits 321,381 as 46 Test Positive

The number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya surged to 321,381 after 46 people tested positive from a sample size of 2,324 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 3,222,886, the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate stands at two per cent.

In a statement issued on Monday, 31st, January Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 41 are Kenyans while five are foreigners with 23 males and 23 females. The youngest is a three-year-old child while the oldest is 91 years.

Kagwe said 107 patients have recovered from the disease, 93 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while 14 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 294,722.

Some three more patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 5,583.

There are 438 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,602 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 11 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.

Another 92 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 90 of them are in the general wards while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 30th January 2022, a total of 12,252,574 vaccines have been administered across the country. 6,521,728 are partially vaccinated and 5,520,712 fully vaccinated. Another 61,437 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 148,697 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 63 per cent. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 20.3 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
