Covid-19 Cases Hit 241,783 as 30 Patients Die

Kenya on Wednesday, 8th September, announced 649 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 241,783.

In a press statement issued in Nairobi, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the 2,429,337 latest figure had been derived from 7,704 samples tested in the last 24 hours. This brings to the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests. The country’s positivity rate is at 8.4 per cent.

Of the cases, 639 are Kenyans while 10 are foreigners, with 295 being females and 354 males. The youngest is a four-month-old infant, while the oldest is 116.

Some 333 patients have recovered from the disease, 221 from home-based and isolation care, while 112 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 230,095.

Kenya reported 30 new deaths pushing the death toll to 4,830.

Kagwe said that 1,790 patients had been admitted to various hospitals across the country while 4,419 patients are on the home-based care programme.

Some 162 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), out of which 120 are on ventilatory support, 38 on supplemental oxygen and four under observation.

Another 724 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 669 are in general wards and 55 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
