Covid-19 Cases Increase By 144 as Two More Succumb

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 144 new Covid-19 cases from 5,897 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 255,796.

This has raised to 2,874,395 the cumulative number of samples tested since March 2019. The country’s positivity rate is at 2.4 per cent.

From the cases 129 are Kenyans while 15 are foreigners with 81 males and 63 females. The youngest is a seven-year-old child while the oldest is 89.

Kagwe said seven patients have recovered from the disease with six from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while one is from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 248,480.

Sadly, two patients have succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,339.

Currently, there are 204 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 833 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

Some patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.

Another 50 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 48 of them being in the general wards. Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The cases are spread in counties as follows; Nairobi 85, Kisii and Trans Nzoia eight cases each, Nakuru six, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado four cases each, Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Busia three cases each, Migori and Lamu two cases each while Isiolo, Kakamega, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, West Pokot, Baringo and Embu had one case each.

As of December 8th 2021, a total of 7,893,165 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 4,776,131 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,117,034.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.5 per cent.  Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 11.4 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
