Covid-19 Cases Jump to 257,614 as 799 More Test Positive

Kenya on Wednesday, 15th December, confirmed 799 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. This brings the country’s caseload to 257,614.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the cases were detected from 7,529 samples tested, raising the total to 2,902,294. The country’s positivity rate stands at 10.6 per cent.

From the new cases, 687 are Kenyans while 112 are foreigners with 404 being females while 395 are males. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 74.

Kagwe said 205 patients have recovered, 179 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 26 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,009.

Sadly, one patient has succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,350.

There are 147 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,358 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

One patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and is receiving ventilatory support.

Another 41 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: A total of 8,368,112 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,022,592 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,345,520.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.1 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 12.3 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
