The Ministry of Health has announced 291 new Covid-19 cases from the 6,501 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
This brings to 249,725 the total number of confirmed cases from the 2,562,723 samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate is at 4.5 per cent.
In a statement issued on Friday, 1st October, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 282 are Kenyans while nine are foreigners, with 160 being males and 131 females. The youngest is a five-month-old infant while the oldest is 100.
Some 308 patients have recovered from the disease; 208 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 100 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 241,828.
The Covid-19 death toll rose to 5,128 after five more patients succumbed to the virus.
Currently, there are 963 admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,078 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme.
At the same time, 61 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 39 of whom are on ventilatory support, 21 on supplemental oxygen and one patient is under observation.
Another 315 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 306 of them in general wards and nine in High Dependency Units (HDU).
Vaccination: As of September 30th, 2021, a total of 3,811,136 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses were 2,897,007 while the second doses were 914,129.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 31.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.4 per cent.
The Government is working towards vaccinating targeted population of 27,246,033. A total of 2,897,007 persons have so far been vaccinated for the first dose.
