The number of Covid-19 infections countrywide has risen to 234,589 after 788 people tested positive in the last 24 hours.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 28th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases were detected from 6,690 samples, bringing to 2,358,930 the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate stands at 11.8 per cent.
From the new cases, 768 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners, with 389 being males and 399 females. The youngest is a 14-day-old infant and the oldest is 110.
A total of 1,478 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,386 from home-based Isolation and care while 92 from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 219,706.
Some 28 more patients succumbed to the virus, raising the number of deaths to 4,694.
There are 1,959 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 7,442 patients are on the home-based isolation and care program.
Some 162 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 114 of whom are on ventilatory support, 37 on supplemental oxygen and 11 patients are under observation.
Another 765 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 713 of them in general wards, and 52 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
Distribution of cases in counties:
Nairobi registered 163 cases, Kiambu 96, Nakuru 73, Nyeri 40, Kirinyaga 33, Murang’a 32, Kajiado 30, Makueni 30, Baringo 28, Kitui 27, Garissa 27, Kericho 22, Kilifi 19, Nyandarua 17, Isiolo 15, Trans Nzoia 13, Migori and Mombasa. 11 cases each, Machakos 10, and Bomet, Siaya and Kisumu, eight cases each.
Laikipia and Embu had seven cases each, Uasin Gishu, Busia and Lamu, six cases each, Samburu and Tana River, five cases each, Marsabit and Homa Bay four cases each, Kisii, Meru and Narok, three cases each, Kakamega and Wajir two cases each while Kwale, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet and Tharaka Nithi, recorded one each.
