Covid-19 Cases Soar to 247,358 as 402 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 402 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The national tally now stands at 247,358.

The cases were from the 6,715 samples tested. This brings to 2,514,478 the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate is at six per cent.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 22nd September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 393 of the new cases are Kenyans and nine are foreigners.

From the latest infections 206 are males while 196 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 101 years.

The national death toll rose to 5,018, after 10 more patients succumbed.

CS Kagwe said 259 patients have recovered from the disease with 182 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 77 from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 238,707.

There are 1,306 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,857 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 94 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 66 of whom are on ventilatory support, 21 on supplemental oxygen and seven patients are under observation.

Another 403 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 385 of them in general wards and 18 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
