Covid-19 Cases Surpass 200,000 Mark as 1,068 People Test Positive

Kenya on Thursday, 29th July, confirmed 1,068 new Covid-19 cases from samples tested in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s coronavirus caseload to 201,009.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a press statement that the cases were detected in the 7,398 samples tested, raising the total to 2,116,979. The country’s positivity rate is at 14.4 per cent.

Of the new cases, 1,018 are Kenyans while 50 are foreigners with 554 being males and 514 females. The youngest is an 11-month-old infant and the oldest is 93 years old.

Kagwe said 398 patients have recovered from the disease, 255 from the Home-Based and Isolation Care program while 143 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 188,222.

Some 15 patients have succumbed to the disease, taking the national death toll to 3,910.

There are 1,434 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,918 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

At the same time, 176 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 43 of whom are on ventilatory support, 82 on supplemental oxygen and 51 patients are under observation.

Another 463 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 417 of them in general wards and 46 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The cases are spread in counties as follows; Nairobi 489, Mombasa 77, Migori 60, Uasin Gishu 57, Kilifi 37, Kiambu 34, Nakuru 33, Kajiado 29, Homa Bay 27, Kirinyaga 26, Busia 21, Murang’a and Laikipia 16 cases each, Kitui 15, Machakos 12, Nyandarua 11, Kisumu 10, Siaya, Baringo and Nyeri nine cases each, Marsabit, Embu and Nandi eight cases each, Kakamega and Turkana six cases each, Garissa and Kericho five cases each, Isiolo, Meru, Samburu, Taita Taveta and Vihiga three cases each, Kisii, West Pokot, Lamu and Mandera two cases each while Trans Nzoia and Bungoma had one case each.
