Kenya’s Covid-19 cases on Friday, 17th December, surpassed the 260,166 mark after 1,609 more people tested positive.
The new infections were from 7,176 samples tested in the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 260,166. The number of cumulative tests now stands at 2,915,257, while the positivity rate is 22.4 per cent.
The Ministry of Health announced in a statement that of the new cases, 1,512 are Kenyans while 97 are foreigners. There are 732 males and 877 females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby, while the oldest is 84.
Some 38 patients have recovered, 35 from the home-based care programme, while three have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,192.
The death toll rose to 5,353 after three more patients succumbed to the virus.
There are 186 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,639 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme.
Some nine patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), three of whom are on ventilatory support while six are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 41 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 40 of them in general wards and one in High Dependency Units (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 16th December 2021, a total of 8,665,288 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,181,626 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,483,662.
