Covid-19: Kenya Records 511 New Cases, 6 Deaths

At least 511 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 within the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 243,456.

In a press statement to newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the cases had been detected from 6,434 samples. The cumulative number of samples tested so far stands at 2,450,791. The country’s positivity rate stands at 7.9 per cent.

From the cases, 503 are Kenyans while eight are foreigners. There are 256 are males and 255 females. The youngest case is a 10-month-old infant while the oldest is 96.

Kagwe said six more patients had succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll to 4,902.

Some 1,018 patients have recovered from the disease, 810 being from the home-based care programme, while 208 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 231,958.

There are 1,617 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide and 4,447 in home-based isolation and care.

At the same time,148 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 99 of whom are on ventilatory support, 35 on supplemental oxygen, and 14 on observation.

Another 622 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen and 562 others are in the general wards and 60 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 10th September, a total of 3,081,610 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 2,255,214 while the second doses are 826,396.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 36.6  per cent with the majority being males at 458,544 (56 per cent) while females are at 367,382 (44 per cent). Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.03 per cent.
