Covid-19: Kenya Records171 New Cases, 4 Deaths

At least 171 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 within the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 321,552.

In a press statement to newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the cases had been detected from 6,137 samples. The cumulative number of samples tested so far stands at 3,229,023. The country’s positivity rate stands at 2.8 per cent.

From the cases, 131 are Kenyans, 40 are foreigners with 89 females and 82 males. The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 92 years.

Kagwe said that 137 patients have recovered from the disease, 112 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while 25 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 294,859.

Four more patients have succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll to 5,587.

There are 413 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,545 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

Some 10 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), all of them on ventilatory support.

Another 89 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 87 of them are in the general wards while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 31st January 2022, a total of 12,451,246 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these 6,583,334 were partially vaccinated while 5,634,410 were fully vaccinated.

Another 78,066 doses were administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 155,436 were booster doses

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 198,672 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 113,698. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 63.2 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 20.7 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
