Covid-19 Positivity Rate Drops as 123 People Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 29th January announced 123 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally to 321,234.

The cases are from the 4,829 samples tested, bringing to 3,216,639 the cumulative number of tests. The country’s positivity stands at 2.5 per cent.

Of the cases, 96 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners with 79 males and 44 females. The youngest is a three-year-old child and the oldest is 103 years.

Some 38 patients have recovered from the disease, 34 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 4 were from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 294,073.

The cumulative fatalities remain at 5,578 as there were no deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

There are 549 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,924 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 20 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), all of them on ventilatory support while another 137 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 136 of them are in general wards.

Another 137 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 136 of them in general wards and one patient in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of Friday, 28th January, a total of 11,987,147 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 6,434,138 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,370,210.

Another 45,768 doses have been administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 137,031 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 63 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 19.7 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
