The Ministry of Health announced on the day of Christmas that 3,749 people tested positive for the covid-19 disease.
The latest figures, according to the Ministry, were from a sample size of 11,460 tested in the last 24 hours. This represents a positivity rate of 32.7%.
“From the cases, 3,415 are Kenyans while 334 are foreigners. 2,010 are females and 1,739 are males. The youngest is an eight-month-old child while the oldest is 92 years.”CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement.
Total confirmed positive cases now stand at 281,358 from cumulative tests numbering 2,987,255 so far conducted.
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi leads in new infections with 1,668 confirmed on Saturday. Nakuru county follows with 237, Kiambu 203, Nyeri 146, while Uasin Gishu registered 132 as Mombasa confirmed 130 new cases.
The Ministry further announced that a total of 703 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide as a result of the disease.
The latest surge has taken the number of those that need to isolate up with 15,302 now under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
“17 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 10 of them on ventilatory support while 7 are on supplemental oxygen. Another 135 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 130 of them are in the general wards. Five patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).” Kagwe confirmed
On a sad note, the ministry says two more patients have succumbed to the disease all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,359.
