CS Magoha Tells Parents He is Not an Idiot, Insists CBC Here to Stay

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has affirmed the new education system, competency-based curriculum (CBC) “is here is to stay.”

We have no apologies to make to anybody,” he said this afternoon while in Nairobi.

Parents and several vocal stakeholders have been voicing their concerns over the implementation of the curriculum.

They argue that it is too expensive for a country like Kenya, plus it seems the syllabus is irregular given that learners in different schools are getting different assignments.

Parents are also unhappy that the assignments require so much of their input, sometimes even more than that of the learners.

However, Mogoha has suggested that most parents are complaining, as they are lazy. He said it is the responsibility of the parent to help their child with homework.

“Who told you that you were just to produce a child then you allow them to go to school? Those saying parents are too engaged are using costs to run away from it. Which cost? Wisdom is in the brains, not in the school,” he said.

The no-nonsense CS also claimed that all schools have been equipped with the necessary technology to facilitate learning.

“Printing tasks are optional. If there is anything to be printed, it can be projected in the school because there are projectors,” he said.

He added that those against CBC sound uneducated and making him look like an idiot.

“Don’t ask how much CBC will cost parents because you will look like someone who never went to school. You can’t portray me as an idiot when I’m not.”
