Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has launched a scathing attack on the Judiciary for allegedly derailing development activities in his ministry.
He claimed that the justice system was being used by powerful and well-to-do individuals in the country to subvert justice by unnecessarily issuing court orders injunctions that were detrimental to the development of the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
Speaking when he toured the Kenya Fisheries Service offices in Malindi, Kilifi, where he inspected the construction of fish market and cold storage facilities, Munya the Judiciary had been stopping various projects in his ministry that had made wananchi to fail to get important projects from the ministry.
He noted that the Judiciary had stopped the repossession of various fish landing sites in the Coast region among them the Mayungu Fish Landing Site as well as projects in the tea sub-sector that would have boosted their livelihoods.

At the same time, the cabinet asked the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) secretariat to include in is recommendations the powers of the Judiciary in order to stop further delay in the implementation of projects on flimsy reasons.
He said although the Judiciary had been demanding an increase in its budgetary allocation every year, its services to wananchi were wanting as it appeared to be serving the interests of a few individuals.
The CS, who was accompanied by Acting Kilifi County Commissioner Josphat Mutisya, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries County Executive Luciana Sanzua and senior Kenya Fisheries Service officials, also visited the Ngomeni Beach Landing site in Magarini Sub County where the county government is building a fish market.
