Controversial economist David Ndii has landed in a fresh court battle with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over allegations of failing to pay taxes amounting to Sh2.8 million

The demanded amount, according to the authority, is part of the Sh2.9 unpaid VAT, which was reduced by Sh1 million by the Tax Appeal Tribunal in 2017.

In 2017, the authority wrote to Ndii demanding a total of Sh11.3 million, Sh8.4 million of which it claimed was arising from unpaid income taxes.

However, the two warring sides agreed to settle the income tax dispute out of court. The tribunal further scrapped off KRA’s Sh2.8 suit, stating that it used the wrong avenue to notify Ndii about his unpaid taxes.

As a result, KRA has now moved to the High Court to appeal the scrapping of the Sh2.8 million, landing Ndii on the spotlight once again.

The development has now landed Ndii in the hands of his critics, especially those unhappy with his new habit of attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

Such include blogger Abraham Mutai who took to Twitter to mock him for claiming to be putting the government on check yet he is on the other hand evading taxes.

“He doesn’t pay his taxes but very bitter with how the government uses whatever it gets. Definition of hypocrisy,” he wrote.

Similar remarks were made by ODM blogger Dikembe Disembe who also indirectly laughed at him in a tweet.

Ndii had not only been criticizing Uhuru but has also repeatedly bashed and insulted him in his regular tweets. The same has been the case with ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is his former ally.
