Devolution CS Charles Keter Resigns to Contest For Kericho Governor’s Post

Devolution Cabinet Secretary(CS) Charles Keter has resigned from the government to focus on his gubernatorial ambitions.

Addressing the press in Nairobi on Tuesday, 8th February Keter said that he is leaving the cabinet as per directives issued by Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua.

“I have tendered my resignation to President Uhuru Kenyatta. I am also complying with a circular that was issued by the Head of Public Service last week dated January 28, 2022, requiring all state and public officers who are not exempted by the provisions of the Elections Act 2011, from resigning from their offices to vacate their offices,” said Keter.

He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve in his Cabinet.

Keter announced that he will be vying for the Kericho Gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket.

He will be seeking to succeed the incumbent Paul Chepkwony, who has served as Kericho Governor for two terms.

Keter joins his Petroleum counterpart John Munyes who has also resigned to vie for Turkana County gubernatorial seat.

According to media reports, Water CS Sicily Kariuki is also set to leave the Cabinet as she eyes the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat.

Other cabinet secretaries expected to exit office include Peter Munya (Agriculture), Ukur Yatani (National Treasury), among others.
