Kirinyaga County residents have sent a stern warning to President Uhuru Kenyatta as they take to the streets to protest an anticipated plan to save Governor Anne Waiguru who was unanimously impeached by the County Assembly Members (MCA’s).

The resident warned the Head of State against interfering with the Senate as they are expected to give a final verdict on Waiguru’s impeachment next week.

The residents noted that the Commander in Chief of Defense Forces has been lashing out at corrupt government officials, adding that he should not protect Waiguru.

“To you President Kenyatta, remember you have been condemning graft and this is your time to deny the governor,” one resident in Kutus stated.

The Kirinyaga residents also pleaded with the Executive not to manipulate the senators as it has happened in a number of similar cases.

Kirinyaga county leaders have also urged the President to give the Senate humble time to do their work on Waiguru’s accusations without interference.

In a joint statement, Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru, Gichugu MP Robert Gichimu, Mwea MP Kabinga Wathayu and Kirinyaga Cetral MP John Wambugu said the will of the people of Kirinyaga should be respected citing that the MCAs had reasonable grounds for the governor’s ouster.

“We unequivocally request the Senate Speaker and the Business Committee to settle for the most democratic method of adjudicating the proposed amendment. In our considered opinion, the most ideal method is the plenary option, not the select committee route, that will involve the entire slew of senators,” they said.
