Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip is yet again being plagued by allegations of abuse, this time around by a fellow politician.
Francis Mugo, who is aspiring to Loitiptip, claimed that the first-time lawmaker attempted to dip him into the Indian Ocean waters.
He alleged that Anwar also grabbed his mobile phone and destroyed his eyeglasses.
“He also injured me in the right hand and left eye,” he said.
Both Anwar and Mugo are allies of Deputy President William Ruto and will be fighting the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
The incident reportedly happened shortly after the DP left Lamu after a series of political engagements in the county on Tuesday, October 19.
“I’m disappointed by Senator Loitiptip’s behavior. He attacked me immediately after DP Ruto boarded his flight and left Manda Airport,” Mugo said.
However, the senator rubbished the claims, saying that his competitor was on a mission to seek sympathy.
“That man is just looking for sympathy and tarnish my name, but I will not pay attention to him. You can imagine how unfair it is for someone to come and gate-crash my function, then try to frame me,” he said.
The matter was reported, but Lamu County police commander Moses Muriithi said there has been little progress in investigations.
Earlier this year, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter, Saumu Mbuvi, accused Anwar of assaulting her. At the time, they were cohabiting.
She took to social media to claim that he beat her up and left her with injuries on the face.
He denied the allegations, stating that Saumu cannot accuse him of abuse yet she could not control emotions as a result of bipolar.
Anwar and Saumu have a daughter, whom the mother claims do not get support from the father.
