Some allies of Deputy President William Ruto protested after establishing that they have not been listed to attend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation address this afternoon.
The fuming Tangatatanga lawmakers have taken to social media to question the motive behind their exclusion.
Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen criticized the President and his handlers in Parliament, accusing them of fueling divisions in the country.
“Very petty on the part of my colleagues in the Senate leadership to lock out supporting Deputy President William Ruto from attending SOTN address,” he wrote on Twitter.
Murkomen asserted that the annual address is a serious constitutional matter that should not be tossed around political persuasions.
“They should remember Article 132 of the Constitution requires the President to address Parliament and not an Azimio la Kieleweke forum,” the senator said.
The parliamentarian claimed that out of 67 senators, only 27 have been invited to physically be present during the much-awaited speech.
According to the list which has been seen by Litkenya.com, a majority of those who have been asked to grace the event have their loyalty to the Head of State, ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka.
The only vocal ally of the DP in the list is Kericho Senator Aaron, who sits in the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Beyond question, the address is yet another platform where the President and his deputy’s cold wars will be accentuated.
The President and his brigade have been accusing the DP of subversion.
On the flip side, the second has been faulting the President for drifting away from the agenda of the Jubilee government and shifting his attention to succession politics.
In his speech, President Kenyatta is expected to highlight his achievement and measures being put in place to help the economy recover from Covid-19 shocks.
In addition, the President could reveal about the mitigation courses designed to fence the country from the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, which scientists say is deadlier.
